Pigeon Creek Park 15524 Stanton Street, West Olive , is now ready and open for skiers and sledders. The 282 acre park has over 10 miles of groomed cross country ski and snowshoe trails that meander through the park's pine plantations, hardwood forest, and peasceful wetlands alon the Pigeon River. The ski trails are kept in peak condition, groomed and lit cross country ski trils are arguably the area's best.
The Ottawa County Parks trail groomers are master of their craft, and were trained by those who manage the Nordic Skiing trails for the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.
For those new to the sport of cross country skiing lessons are available at the park along with ski and snowshoe rentals.
Two large sledding hills are great for the kids and the yournd at heart. The sledding hill along with several miles of ski trails are lit at night. The Pigeon Creek Lodge, renovated in 2012, offers ski and snowshoe rentals, refreshments and warm hospitality by the field stone fireplace. There are no entry fees or trail fees, however those wishing to rent skis or snowshoes will be between $5-$8 for two hours. Skiing lessons are available at the park. Go to: mi.ottawa.org for times. Generally, the park is open 7ap to 8pm and remains open until 10pm with trails and hills lit during satisfactory snow conditions. Because Mother Nature dictated the hours, it can be tricky to say when exactly the lodge and the park are open and trailes groomed. Wile dependent on snow conditions, the ski lodge is generally open Monday - Thursday from 4-8pm , Fridays from 1-10pm Saturdays from 9am -10pm and on sundays from 9am - 8pm.
